At Ramzy Performance, we operate a professional 2WD Eddy Brake Dynamometer controlled by the Sports Devices SP5 control system. This allows us to carry out accurate power measurements, professional ECU calibration and detailed diagnostics under controlled conditions.
Our workshop is based in Nottingham, serving customers from across the East Midlands and the UK.
What is a dyno?
A dynamometer, commonly known as a dyno or rolling road, is a machine that measures the power and torque produced by your vehicle.
Your car is securely positioned on rollers while being driven under controlled conditions. During testing we record power, torque and other important engine data to accurately assess vehicle performance.
What type of dyno do you use?
Ramzy Performance uses a 2WD Eddy Brake Dynamometer with a Sports Devices SP5 controller.
Unlike an inertia-only dyno, an eddy brake dyno allows us to apply controlled load to the vehicle. This enables precise tuning, improved drivability calibration and more consistent results.
This type of dyno is widely used by professional tuning companies because it allows engines to be tested under real-world driving loads.
What is an Eddy Brake dyno?
An eddy brake dyno uses an electromagnetic retarder to create adjustable resistance against the rollers.
This allows us to:
- Hold the engine at a fixed RPM
- Simulate uphill driving
- Tune individual load sites
- Optimise ignition timing
- Adjust fueling accurately
- Improve turbo spool characteristics
- Produce highly repeatable results
This level of control simply isn’t possible on a basic inertia dyno.
Do You Have a 2WD or 4WD Dyno?
Our rolling road is a 2WD Eddy Brake dyno fitted with a Sports Devices SP5 control system.
Although it is a 2WD setup, we can safely test many modern four-wheel-drive vehicles where the drivetrain can operate predominantly in two-wheel drive during a dyno run. This includes a range of systems such as BMW xDrive, Haldex-equipped Volkswagen Audi Group vehicles (including the Golf R, Audi S3 and RS3), along with many other compatible models.
Vehicle compatibility depends on the drivetrain design, electronic control systems and the specific model, so not every 4WD vehicle can be tested on a 2WD dyno.

Why is load control important?
Modern ECUs calculate fuel, ignition timing and boost based on engine load.
By accurately controlling load, we can safely optimise every part of the calibration instead of only tuning during full-throttle acceleration.
The result is a smoother, more responsive and more reliable vehicle.

Can I book a power run?
Yes.
If you simply want to know how much power your vehicle produces, we offer dyno power runs.
You’ll receive a printed or digital dyno graph showing:
- Wheel Horsepower
- Estimated Flywheel Horsepower
- Torque
- Engine RPM
- Power Curve
- Torque Curve
These runs are ideal after modifications or before further upgrades.
Can you tune modified vehicles?
Absolutely.
We regularly work with vehicles fitted with:

Can you tune turbocharged vehicles?
Yes.
An eddy brake dyno is particularly beneficial for turbocharged engines because we can hold the engine at specific RPM points while safely adjusting:

This produces smoother power delivery and improved reliability.
Can you diagnose faults on the dyno?
Yes.
A rolling road is one of the best diagnostic tools available.
Under controlled load we can identify problems that may not appear during normal road driving.

Is dyno testing safe?
Yes.
When performed correctly, dyno testing is perfectly safe.
Every vehicle is securely strapped to the dyno before testing.
Large cooling fans simulate road airflow while the vehicle is continuously monitored throughout the session.
If we identify any mechanical issue or safety concern, testing is stopped immediately.
Protecting your vehicle always comes first.
Will dyno tuning damage my engine?
A healthy engine should not be damaged by professional dyno testing.
Before and during every session we monitor critical parameters including:
- Air/Fuel Ratio
- Boost Pressure
- Engine Temperature
- Intake Air Temperature
- Knock Activity
- Exhaust Smoke
- General Engine Behaviour
If anything appears abnormal, testing will stop until the issue has been investigated.
Can I stay and watch?
Yes.
Customers are welcome to watch their vehicle during testing from our designated viewing area, subject to workshop safety procedures.
Many customers enjoy seeing the dyno in action and discussing the results with our team afterwards.
How long does a dyno session take?
Typical session times are:
Power Run: Approximately 30–45 minutes
Diagnostics: Approximately 1–2 hours
Custom ECU Remapping: Typically 2–5 hours depending on the vehicle and modifications.
We’ll always advise you of the expected duration before work begins.
Why do power figures differy between dynos?
Different dynos use different methods to calculate power.
Variables such as tyre pressure, ambient temperature, correction factors and dyno type can all influence the final number.
For this reason, dyno results are best used to compare improvements on the same dyno under similar conditions.
